During the start of the semester the term exigence and purpose began to bleed together as they both seemed to ask the same thing. However they are fairly different in how you define them, I define the purpose of our writing to not necessarily be the purpose but the “call to action” we are trying to embed into our writing and persuade our audience to follow. Earlier on in the semester, I lacked the foresight to pin down my purpose which led to lopsided writing as the beginning half of my writing would lack any purpose and the latter portion would be very heavy handed with its purpose. As I have completed more assignments, I have spread my purpose on the entirety of my writing but it is not seamless so certain sentences that contain purpose do stick out which makes my writing a bit more difficult to read.
In Figure 1, I am able to explain what my lab report seeks to accomplish. I state that I seek to inform and don’t bring any extraneous information along with that as opposed to my earlier iterations where my purpose and exigence bled into one another.
