Formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing

Stance is one of the rhetorical elements that we focused on in Writing for Engineers. Stance is our attitude towards a topic and this needs to be properly conveyed through our writing. Prior to even writing our assignment, I try to find my stance and make an outline that incorporates that stance as well as any other elements that may work with it. At an earlier point in this semester I thought to make my stance without an outline and so I was unable to properly convey my stance. As the semester went on I was better able to understand how to interweave my stance into my writing to better enhance the effect of my stance. As the reader gets further into my piece, the amount of knowledge they have on my stance will also increase and so the stance should also become more complex and multifaceted as the piece progresses.

In figure 1, it shows the stance I had for my Lab report. I circumvented my weakness that I had on earlier assignments when my stances were too wordy and lopsided by keeping my stance simple and straightforward. By keeping my stance simple it helped me outline and build my lab report a lot easier.
