An Engineering Proposal is a well researched document that seeks to put forth a solution to a problem. In my group’s case, we proposed an emergency water filtration system for bodies of water that are effected by ash from forest fires. While a good portion of the document is descriptions of a proposal, there are many places for persuasive elements to be inserted.
- The Introduction includes the problem statement, objective and the needs statement. The introduction should contain persuasive elements as it is the portion that almost everyone will read and should be simplified for anyone to read.
- The Proposed Technical Approach section focuses on the physical properties of the proposal, such as the design and implementation of the proposal. This section is usually the longest as it goes in to detail on every facet of design concerning the proposal.
- The Expected Project results include the budget and usually the schedule. The expect project results work as a simplification of the possible gains of the proposal
- The Qualifications section goes into detail on the strengths of each member of the group and how each member uses their expertise to help come up with the proposal and move it forward
- The References section includes all the sources of the research needed for the Engineering Proposal. If references are not included the group’s credibility is brought into question.
