CLO #4

Develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes

The writing process in most other classes is usually individual but in Writing for Engineers was encouraged. This class has helped me learn how to make critiques of others’ work but also how to use critiques I am given to revise not just portions of my assignment but how to apply those revisions across the entirety of my writing. Prior to this class I found comments/critiques that were general or that didn’t pinpoint a specific area to be of no use and just a waste of time. However, as time has gone on I have found that these comments are more useful than I gave them credit for. When I am given a critique that focuses on my stance, while it doesn’t give me a specific area to look at, it tells me that either my stance is not apparent enough and this most likely occurred because I was not able to convey it properly throughout the entirety of my assignment.

In Figure 1, it shows a comment thread under the topic I choose for my lab report. Shortly after, I was able to understand the shortcomings of my original idea and changed to better fit the assignment by making my point of interest have a quantifiable answer.
