Engage in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond

A genre analysis was a common assignment after learning about the basics of a specific genre. Each genre Analysis asked us questions pertaining to each genre and whether each example we were given matched the guidelines that we learned during class. The repeating genre analysis helped us better understand what we needed in upcoming projects and how we should present each of the guidelines that we learned about. While each guideline is important for the overall cohesiveness of our assignment as certain elements take a back seat to others, and learning how to apply this observation is what the genre analysis does besides being a review on the guidelines for each genre.

In Figure 1, it shows a genre analysis I did on a sample Technical Description. This genre analysis helped me understand the nuances of Technical Descriptions.
