enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment

My skills and strategies when reading/researching and drafting my work have gotten better while taking Writing for Engineering. Originally, I would wantonly search for articles that would relate to my topic on Google and build up from there. While this was the most convenient it led to a rough foundation for my writing, it didn’t leave much room for growth so as I went more in-depth it still felt one note. In Writing for Engineers, I was able to acquaint myself with databases such as CUNY OneSearch and other scientific journals. These sources of research helped make a solid foundation of knowledge/background for my written assignments and how to build on to it by asking the right questions to fill in the gaps of my research.

In terms of revising, editing and self-assessment, I have become more self aware of the faults in my writing. Prior to taking Writing for Engineers, the changes I made from my initial to final draft were minor. However, as I did assignments for this class I was able to better find weaknesses in  my initial drafts and better plan on how to fill in those gaps. This skill was something I was able to gain some understanding on after receiving critique from both my peers and professor. One thing I pick up almost instantaneously during self-assessment is the readability of my article as long paragraphs seem to turn away most readers which is something I became more aware of after incorporating too many long paragraphs in my memo assignment.

In Figure 1, it shows the comments I received for my memo and as you can see there were a lot of mistakes. But I learned from my mistakes and better understood what I lacked in understanding and filled in my gaps. After filling in my gaps of understanding I was able to make my final revisions for my portfolio.
